Psychotherapy is a treatment that addresses psychological distress and problems in life. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process. The intent is to build a relationship with you where you feel free to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours (particularly those thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may cause you psychological distress, impeding progress in achieving your life goals and /or getting in the way of your ability to find fulfilment and meaning in your life)
Since psychotherapy involves the exploration and process of uncomfortable aspects of your life, you may at times experience difficult feelings like sadness, guilt, anger, depression, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness. These emotional states can sometimes last for days or even weeks. In such cases, it is usually recommended that client seek a medical consultation (with a medical doctor or psychiatrist) to aid in the process of psychotherapy. On the plus side, psychotherapy has been shown to have clear and important benefits for those clients that follow through with it. Psychotherapy usually leads to improved relationships, healthy solutions to specific problems, and significant increase in mental clarity and emotional balance.
